  • Description - Subject - Honolulu from the Kawaiahao Church Tower; Original Photo by - Stangenwald, date believed to be 1853; When copied - 1946; Data - Near the center of the picture is the Charity School, erected in 1833 and finally torn down in 1874. This school had a long and varied history (See Paradise of the Pacific, Dec. 1950, page 56). The Charity school occupied the site about where the banyan tree bet[w]een the Judiciary Building and the Territorial Office building now stands.
