  • Description - [from the front]: "AN OFFERING BEFORE CAPTAIN COOK IN THE SANDWICH ISLANDS". This old print of nearly a century-and-a-half ago shows Captain Cook and some of his officers at a ceremonial reception on Hawaii Island, near where his ships Resolution and Discovery lay in Kealakekua Bay. Having first visited the Islands in January, 1778, he was on the Big island, Hawaii, in December of that year and again early in 1779, his death occurring February 14. This print, in the Bryant Cooper collecton (Honolulu), bears these credits: "Drawn by J. Webber; the landscape engraving by Middiman; the figures by Hail.; Paradise of the Pacific.
