  • Description - Information from the National Portrait Gallery, London W.C.2, Whitehall 8511 on Dec. 1, 1969: . . . There is a portrait in the collection called Captain George Vancouver (no. 503) by an unknown artist. It has been suggested that it shows a man rather too old and too fat for one who was suffering from tuberculosis and died aged 40. Unfortunately there is no authenticated portrait for comparison. A similar version is in the B. P. Bishop Museum, Honolulu.
