ARTICLES: Ten articles relating to relations between the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi and Great Britain

A series of ten articles agreed to between Kamehameha III and Rear Admiral Thomas regarding relations between the Hawaiian Islands and Great Britain. First: King Kamehameha III is to grant British subjects living in Hawaiʻi all associated rights, privileges, and immunities associated with Great Britain. Second: King Kamehameha III and staff are to grant the captain of any visiting British vessel an audience if the captain wishes it. Third: King Kamehameha III is not to renew the land dispute with Mr. Charlton. Fourth: King Kamehameha III is not to confine British subjects in fetters unless they are "riotous" or dangerous. Fifth: Disputes between British subjects living in Hawaiʻi and others residing in the Kingdom is to be decided by a jury consisting of half British subjects and who declare impartiality to the case. Sixth: Regarding royal disposition. Seventh: Detailing the responsibilities and privileges granted to Foreign Consuls living in Hawaiʻi. Eighth: An agreement that any British grievances or claims not addressed in the articles is to be referred to the British justice system. Ninth: The British Consul or a substitute is to be present at any land disputes in Hawaiʻi that concern a British subject.
