Internal structures/genealogy

The board consisted of three commissioners, composed of the Minister of the Interior and two persons appointed by the President, with the approval of the Cabinet, one of whom was designated the Agent of Public Lands. The Agent of Public Lands was the business representative of the Commissioners, and under their direction and through the Sub-Agents, administered the affairs of the public lands. The Commissioners were represented in each land district by the Sub-Agent of Public Lands, who was appointed by the Commissioners and removable at their discretion. The appointed commissioners were subject to removal by the President with the approval of the Cabinet. Rangers of Public Lands were appointed by the Commissioners to observe and see that the provisions of the Land Act of 1895 were complied with in their respective districts and to report to the sub-agent.
