Rosters

All rosters in this series provide name, rank, unit assignment and firearms and ammunition issued to members of all divisions. May also include age, nationality, occupation, telephone number, marital status, date of commission, uniform items issued and attendance at parades and drills. Firearms--rifles and sidearms--information includes manufacturer, serial numbers, caliber of weapon and ammunition issued. Company rosters, 1894-1898, for all units consist of three volumes. The Mounted Reserve roster also contains brief minutes, orders, and notes on drill attendance. Citizen Guard Rosters for 1898 consists of one oversize volume.

Routine outgoing letters by Marshal A. M. Brown, commander of the Citizens Guard and J. Batchelor, Adjutant, to officers in the Citizens Guard and the National Guard of Hawaiʻi and to the Sheriffs' Offices on Hawaiʻi, Maui, Oʻahu and Kauaʻi transmitting firearms and ammununition to Citizens Guard units, and concern officer elections, membership applications, supply requisitions, and stores inventories.

Meetings conducted by Marshal A. M. Brown, commander of the Citizens Guard or Senior Captain Frank B. McStocker and attended by captains and lieutenants. Documents shooting matches, drills, inspections, parades, and disbandment of the Citizens Guard. Minutes for 1900-1902 document the organization's attempts to set up a memorial to Charles L. Carter. O'ahu Squad Rosters reflect Citizen Guard organization prior to the 1895 reorganization. Rosters list officers for 1896-1898, firearm inventories which contain manufacturer and serial numbers of rifles issued to the Citizen Guard from 1895-1900 and documents firearms and ammunition distribution to Citizens Guard companies on all islands.

Journal of the Nuʻuanu Valley Guard

Contains rosters of and documents the guard duty watches of the Nuʻuanu Street Volunteer Guards and the Liliha Street Volunteer Guards from September 11 through September 26, 1895 during a feared cholera outbreak in Honolulu. Citizens Guard was called out by the Board. of Health president to monitor the movement of resident aliens in Honolulu.
