  • Description - Commander John Rodgers and U.S. Navy crew flew the first trans-Pacific flight from San Francisco to Hawaii in 1925. Their PN-9 airplane ditched 365 miles from Oahu. They were able to sail the plane to Kauai where they were found and towed by a submarine into Nawiliwili Harbor 9 days later, on Sept. 10, 1925. The plane was shipped to Pearl Harbor where it was repaired and flew again soon after.
