Description -
Honolulu, Hawaii Oct. 10, 1934. The "Oni Oni", latest ballroom sensation is a combination of modern tricky steps and the sway of the ancient Hawaiian hula. Shown: Harry Owens, orchestra leader, and dancers Clayton Ramler and Hazel Hale.
1st position of dance. 1st position: Opening steps must be danced to a 1 and 2 and 1 and 2 rhythm, allowing for a startling change into the primitive 5-4 beat. The gentleman starts on a right foot front. Lady steps back on her left in a hula dip position keeping a definite count of 1 and 2 and 1 and 2. This step is done with a swing into a traveling hula step breaking into a decided rhythm of 1,2,3 and 1,2,3, repeated once.
