Administrative history

The County of Hawai‘i Industrial Accident Board was appointed by the [Territorial] Governor, consisting of five board members who served without salary and attended regular meetings about once a month. The bulk of the daily business and record keeping was done by a salaried secretary for each board.

Correspondence with employers on such matters as insurance policies and self insurance and on specific claims and reports; with Territorial offices on personnel, budget and inventory; with various state and national organizations, reviewing legislation, experience and procedures; and with the U.S. Employees Compensation Commission. Also includes legal opinions on topics such as average weekly wage determination, benefits to nonresident dependents and definition of casual laborers. Of interest are reports of the Hawaiian Sugar Planters covering job safety and job injuries on the plantations.
